Owl has a chronic illness and often feels sick, whether he is at home or in the hospital.
Being quite the scholar, Owl has found many research studies that display how meditation can help you manage the pain and symptoms of many illnesses.
Owl knows that when you are ill, or in pain, your body reduces a stress hormone called cortisol. High levels of cortisol result in many things like headaches, tummy aches, muscle tightness, rapid heart rate, and anxiety. Owl doesn’t like feeling those things.
From Owl’s research, he has learned that meditation releases endorphins, the feel-good chemicals that reduce feelings of pain and illness.
When Owl is feeling poorly, he remembers his research, and he begins to meditate. Meditation relaxes his mind, and soothes the pain in his body. Meditation helps Owl fall asleep, even when he is sick, scared or hurting. When Owl rests, he gives his body time to heal and feel better.
